Finding Balance Is Key to Achieving Goals

Sandy Harryman

"I can't thank NU enough. With all their support, I was able to complete my degree, go on to graduate school, and become a pastor. I would not have accomplished my goal without this incredible educational institution. I'm forever grateful." — Pastor Sandi Harryman, B.S., '94

Though full of unanticipated challenges, including a surprising career path, Pastor Sandi Harryman considers her educational journey a blessing. When she unexpectedly found herself single with two small children, working 50 to 60 hours a week, and facing an uncertain future, she turned to her faith. With God's guidance, she decided to complete her Behavioral Science degree at NU so she could pursue her Master of Divinity degree to answer God's call on her life.

"I had some classes behind me but needed to finish college," says Sandi. "After overcoming doubts about going into the ministry, but asking myself, 'Where do I want to be in five or 10 years,' my next hurdle was finding a school that fit my work and home schedule and my budget. I was impressed with NU's flexible monthly classes offered on evenings and weekends, and their willingness to help. Without knowing how I was going to balance everything, I went on faith and accepted NU's offer."

Just before graduation, her high school sweetheart found her. They married, and she completed her degree. Then after four years at seminary, she achieved her Master of Divinity degree.

Serving churches, Sandi enjoyed an extraordinary ministry doing something she loved—serving God's people. Now retired and devoted to her family, Sandi and her husband, George, have five grown children, five grandchildren, and are blessed with the care of their 9-year-old grandson.

Through all the surprises and joys, Sandi believes, "if I could do this, anyone can. Without God and NU, I never would have completed my degree, then seminary, or be where I am today. I'm forever grateful."
